The Western Hockey Alliance was created by a group of like minded Hockey Development Companies who are deeply aligned in their vision relative to what the Spring Hockey experience should be for young players.  Each Company runs successful Spring Development programs, with players who enjoy the development piece only as well as those who desire to continue to play competitive hockey through the Spring.  Together, the WHA is endeavouring to create a consistent, positive and affordable Spring Hockey experience for all of its participants and teams through the WHA Champions Series.

Champions Series Dates:

April 9-11: WHA Champions League April Qualifier 

Gold/Silvers Divisions: 2012, 2010, 2008

April 16-18: WHA Champions League April Qualifier

Gold/Silvers Divisions: 2013, 2011, 2009

May 7 – 9: WHA Champions League May Qualifier  

Gold/Silvers Divisions:  2012, 2010, 2008

May 14 -May 16: WHA Champions League May Qualifier 

Gold/Silvers Divisions: 2011, 2010, 2009

May 28 – 30: WHA Championship 

Gold/Silvers Divisions: 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008

WHA Champions Series Payment Plan

Non-refundable Deposit due in January: $1500 + gst (for 3 events)
Non-refundable Second payment due Feb 1: $2250 + gst (2008-2011) / $1750 + gst (2012-2013)
Non-refundable Final payment due March 1: $1500 + gst

WHA Champions Series 2021

Cancellation Policy & Protocols

All payments made to WHA , including deposits and fees, are final and no refunds or credits will be issued for any reason (including inability to attend due to injury, sickness, weather, lack of participants etc.) unless otherwise specified herein.
*If the WHA Champions Series (one, two or all events) is cancelled due to restrictions put in place by AHS and directives given by provincial and municipal governments and associated facilities during and due to the COVID pandemic, teams will be issued full refunds for said event(s) (minus 5% processing fee).
*If a team has been directly impacted by the outbreak and the entire team requires isolation due to contracted cases within or exposure, the team will be removed from the most immediate tournament within the series. The team will be refunded for the percentage of the fees for said event (minus an administration fee of 25%)
*In the event we cancel any tournament due to circumstances within our reasonable control at any time, we will refund all fees and any deposit paid to us up to the date of cancellation (less a 5% payment processing fee)
*In the event we cancel any tournament due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including due to a Force Majeure Events, WHA will refund teams their full or portion of their fees once all expenses have been either paid or waived by supplier/ venue etc. (less a 5% payment processing fee)
Covid-19 Protocols/Policies
We will have a rigorous Covid Policy, guidelines, and procedures in place that will be in line with the most recent AHS Guidelines, City of Calgary, Town of Cochrane and City of Airdrie Protocols/Policies, Arena Protocols/Policies, and Government of Alberta Protocols/Policies. We will provide up to date procedures as we approach the event.

WHA Championship playing for the Kozak Cup - Who is Wally Kozak

Kozak Cup is a shout out to hockey legend, Wally Kozak who has been influencing the game for decades . Wally was a former player at the University of Saskatchewan, a former head coach with the Calgary Wranglers. Kozak’s coaching career has also influenced the sport of hockey on a global stage, from serving as the Head Scout/ Manager of coach and player development, Hockey Canada, National Women’s Program between 2003-07 to serving as a mentor with the Japan Ice Hockey Federation, 1995-98, in preparation for the Nagano Olympics.  Wally has provided mentorship to P3 coaches and athletes alike.
